New year new we

Sofia

Last week we sat down together to discuss the past half year since we decided to go for our dream. Luckily, we only planned a starting time and no end time - the meeting lasted for four hours. Following is a rather honest and open summary of the meeting.

Our first discussion point was wether it was a mistake or not to not register a company already. We were about to do it in July, we even sent in an application - but in the last minute we took it back. We have different perspectives of this. For me, Sofia, it has been a good thing. I needed to almost start to actually realize it is possible and to take the dream seriously. But I also needed to back to be able to prepare myself the way I am comfortable with. Some people are slow and uncomfortable with changes - myself included. If we had started, I am pretty sure I would have been too stressed about starting to actually do anything. For Eva, it is mixed feelings. Somehow a mistake not to start in July since it would be so very inspiring, adventourous and confident. At the same time not a mistake as it is quite costly and a lot of administration.

Something that we got back to throughout the meeting was that we need to see this full process as our embroideries. We start with an idea where we let some things be set by rules and some things be free. But we never know the end result and we are certainly not afraid of self inspection or changing when we are onto the wrong track. We are very confident of this process when working with the embroideries - but unfortunately not as experienced/calm/confident with our process when it comes to building a company. A good insight when we are in doubt.

When we discussed what we actually performed during the autumn it felt like we had done nothing. But then we listed it and realized that we actually did quite a bit. Also keeping in mind all the unseen work that needs to be done in our heads to output the result we want.

A summary of the activities we have performed:

  • Seriously thinking about starting a company
  • Bought this professional webpage and blog
  • Hired a photographer to take professional photographs of our embroideries
  • Wrote some blog posts - with hopefully higher frequency next year
  • Updated our Instagram style with better photos
  • Got contact with some interesting people in the business
  • Tested yarn from potential suppliers
  • Made a big wishlist of products we want to develop within textile handcraft

We also made a list of activities to perform before the next big status meeting next summer.

  • Order textile supplies to test and learn for product development
  • Take new photos of our embroideries
  • Study visit in Mexico - January
  • Go through IT issues
  • Get visitor statistics linked to our webpage
  • Make more frequent blog posts
  • Apply to art exhibitions - which means we need to finilize more embroideries
  • Finilize assembly of "Jag flyttar till Stockholm" ("I am moving to Stockholm")
  • Finilize the yellow embroidery and assemble it (3/5 pieces done)
  • Make an assembly plan for our poor left over embroideries in the drawer
  • Cut out canvas to a new fun project
  • Finilize the beautiful computer case - a nice art piece to actually use and show off in real life and not only at home
  • Visit Liljevalchs Vårsalong 2020 - an art exhibition that we would like to apply to
  • Attend a course about dying yarn
