Liljevalchs Vårsalong 2020 part 1

Sofia

Last weekend I visited Liljevalchs Vårsalong for the first time. We are considering applying to it next year so we needed a scout to check it out - me! Liljevalchs Vårsalong is an spring exhibition at Liljevalchs in Stockholm and everyone can apply. All artists are presented at this webpage: https://www.liljevalchs.se/utstallningar/varsalongen-2020/

I wanted to check it pieces out but mostly focusing on the textile art. This year it was 16 textile artists. I took a lot of photos during the day. I am making some spontanious comments on each photo but for more information, visit the webpage since each artist describes their pieces and their style properly.

Liljevalchs Vårsalong: Gunilla Pantzar The photo above shows a very interesting piece where the artist made embroideries on nylon.

Several felted sculptures were exhibited. I liked the pureness of this piece of a naked woman going swimming.

Liljevalchs Vårsalong: Anna Ting Möller

The above photo is not a textile but a living organism from a bacteria culture. Very strange and cool.

Liljevalchs Vårsalong: Chang Im Ohlsson

The massive felted birds looked amazing on the exhibition.

Liljevalchs Vårsalong: Gunilla Bergström

Also inpiring to use textile and wood in combination. A very sober piece.

Liljevalchs Vårsalong: Emma Hasselblad

I liked how this piece just filled the room with color and yarn. It is knitted and is playing with the concept of bodies and clothing.

Liljevalchs Vårsalong: Lena Andersson

Above is a photo of beautifully embroideried patchwork.

Liljevalchs Vårsalong: Julia Levander Drew

How cute is this monkey? The artist is inspired by animals and the way humans use them.

Liljevalchs Vårsalong: Linda Lasson

A beautiful piece with a political undertone.

Liljevalchs vårsalong: Cecilia Bergman Fröberg

More beautiful embroideries in a textile collage.

Liljevalchs vårsalong: Julia Olanders

Very interesting textile sculpture.

Liljevalchs vårsalong: Linnea Norén

Another very exciting sculpture. Playing with organic style.

Liljevalchs vårsalong: Thomas Karlsson

This one is not textile, it is paper. But these huge birds were truly breathtaking when I watch them from below.

Liljevalchs vårsalong: Anna Fjällbäck

The fluffy yarn-mosaic pieces are very interesting and abstract.

This was some of the textile artists from this years exhibition. It was very varied with both big sculptures as well as wall decorations. I am glad to see so many creative pieces and to have so many different styles at the same exhibition was very nice. It was also nice to see how you can play with an exhibition hall and not only show pieces "the normal way". I am also weak for big textile sculptures so I really liked that several of those were exhibited. However I still feel hopeful for us since our style was not really represented. I recommend a visit!

In the next blog post part 2 will come with photos from other techniques than textile.
